EBay loses bid to shield sellers from taxman
When Judy Baldwin started making several hundred dollars a month selling quilt supplies on eBay, she quickly became an eBay PowerSeller. But she also knew that she would have to start declaring that money on her taxes.
Now the Canada Revenue Agency will be checking to make sure roughly 10,000 other PowerSellers are reporting their eBay revenue as well, because of a court ruling made public yesterday.

Amazon.com Starts Its Own Gadget Blog
As if there aren’t enough gadget blogs, like Gizmodo, Engadget, Crave, and more, Amazon.com has launched its own gadget blog. The blog, named End User, could possibly be a little self-serving, as most of the posts seem to have links directly to Amazon.com items for sale (no!) and the blog’s authors are all Amazon.com employees (double no!).

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Retired eBay Chief Executive Meg Whitman received compensation valued at $10 million in 2007, a pay package that included $787,936 for personal air travel, according to a securities filing by the company on Monday.

Another huge kink in eBay’s armor has been revealed today. Several eBay members have managed to manipulate eBay by rigging the eBay Pulse page and making thousands of dollars per month for their effort.
An eBay member has apparently created a piece of software that creates hundreds of thousands of fake eBay accounts. He is then able to use these accounts to create watchers for his and several other eBay members auctions.

Amazon Toying with Vertical Integration
Amazon.com (AMZN) has been pursuing growth at all costs. Its recently announced Q1 2008 results are a testament to that drive. It reported the quarter’s revenue at $4.13 billion, meeting analyst expectations and reporting a 37% increase over the previous year. Its earnings for the quarter at $0.34 were marginally higher than the market’s expectation of $0.32, and are 30% higher than previous year earnings.
